An art trade with
 asked me to do an anime-style version of an Egyptian god or goddess. So I did Hathor-Sekhmet. I know this picture may look a bit morbid, but it is based on the Hathor-Sekhmet myth. The myth states that Re, after hearing humans were planning to overthrow him, sent his eye in the from of Hathor-Sekhmet to punish mankind. Hathor-Sekhmet took the form of a lioness and slaughtered many people. She then developed a taste for human blood and was intent on the destruction of the rest of mankind. In order to stop her, Re ordered that red ocher and barley beer be mixed and spread over the fields where Hathor-Sekhmet was planning her next strike. Believing it was blood, she drank so much that she became intoxicated and fell into a stupor. When she awoken she had forgotten her original intent and was once again her original self, Hathor.  Go booze! |

I hate
Whats interesting is that I do charcoal commissions for a client who requests me to draw Egyptian Gods/Goddesses for meditational purposes. I just drew a portrait of the powerful Sekhmet herself, and she is a wild one at that!
I've learned that a tamed version of her is the Godess Baast, which is a domesticated cat, tho she is also closely affiliated with Hathor and Isis as well.
I absolutely love this piece! You've really captured Sekhmet at her brutal best. I love everything about this!
